I took this at Leeds Castle in Kent. I was amazed at how lucky I was capturing this beautiful moment

All-black and larger than its cousin, the moorhen.
It has a distinctive white beak and 'shield' above the beak which earns it the title 'bald'. Its feet have distinctive lobed flaps of skin on the toes, which act instead of webs when swimming. It patters noisily over the water before taking off and can be very aggressive towards others.

That is cute the mother and baby, nice close up, and feeding with worms. I have not seen this species, though your description of their attitude sounds like those white swans. Still it is a nice photo, from a safe distance of course.
